Support Us

Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum has always brought a wide range of benefits to people visiting the museum – including out beyond the building – through its activities, projects and events. The current site however, is compromised by difficult access to its main collections, and by limited temporary exhibition, storage and other public spaces. The aim is to address these long-standing constraints through the redevelopment of the site – which will allow improved access to, and increased opportunities for the interpretation and use of the collections – a place where everyone is welcome.

An integral part of this planning process, has been the aspiration that the Art Gallery & Museum can become the central focus to a developing ‘cultural quarter’ within the town of Cheltenham – somewhere for local people and visitors to celebrate, explore and discover Cheltenham’s history, but also a place where you can experience a national / international touring show or see / buy work from local craftspeople and artists.

We need you to help us realise this vision.

There are many ways you can help Building for a New future , including making a donation or providing corporate support. Donations large and small will help fund work from gallery refurbishments to creating community exhibition spaces, and dedicated areas for young people to perform and exhibit / display their work.

World Cultures Gallery Build and Re-Design – Invitation for Tenders

The Wilson, Cheltenham’s Premier Art Gallery and Museum is excited to have been awarded £121k from the DCSM/Wolfson Foundation Museum Development Fund. This grant will enable it to re-open its currently closed World Cultures Gallery. This is an historic and distinguished gallery space that houses our ethnographic collection and has been closed since our refurbishment. We want to reopen this gallery and reignite interest in our ethnographic collection and other collections with an interactive, creative and inspirational space for under 5 year olds and carers to engage with both The Wilson and the wider world. We want to create a space that puts the user experience for this age group front and centre of our audience experience and is a safe, inviting space for both adults and children.

If you are a museum development agency with the skills to re-imagine our gallery space as a treasure trove for younger users, get in touch! We are looking for the right expertise to build and re-display collection items for this age group and to transform this gallery (6m x 8.6m) into a place for speaking, touching, exploring and learning: please look and do touch!
