payable to RIBA Competitions.
The deadline for registrations is Friday 24 August 2007 and the
deadline for receipt of submissions is Wednesday 12 September 2007.


Submission Instructions

Stage 1:

A1 Boards – Competitors should submit their design proposals on a maximum of two (single-sided) A1 lightweight boards, to include all illustrations, drawings and descriptive text. The scale and nature of drawings and plans is left to competitors’ discretion. One of the boards for each competitor will be displayed publicly prior to stage 1 judging. Competitors should therefore ensure that the board for public exhibition is clearly identified (on the back) and be capable of providing a stand-alone exhibition and description of the concept. Two high quality A3 copies should also be supplied.

Cost estimate – On a separate single A4 sheet a statement regarding cost and how the team proposes to deliver a high quality solution within the given budget.

CD – For publicity purposes (associated with the competition) and for display on the website, competitors are also required to select two key images that they feel best illustrates their proposal plus a 250 word summary description. These should be provided on a CD ROM in JPEG format on both 72dpi and 300pi (each image).

Declaration – the declaration form signed, and placed in the ‘official envelope’ provided with the competition documentation.

Stage 2:

Stage 2 will involve further exploration of stage 1 design concepts and the financial viability of the proposal. It is expected that an additional 2 – 3 (max) boards will be required, plus a statement relating to cost and viability of the proposal.

The promoter and the RIBA Competitions Office will exercise all reasonable care, but will not be responsible for loss or damage to drawings that may occur either in transit, or during exhibition, storage or packing.

Competitors are advised to retain copies of the designs submitted.


Submission Method

Stage 1 submissions should be contained in a single package and sent, carriage paid, addressed to: RIBA Competitions Office, 6 Melbourne Street, Leeds LS2 7PS and clearly marked ‘RIBA / Building for a New Future: CAG&M’ to arrive no later than 14.00 hours on Wednesday 12 September 2007. Competitors requiring proof of a delivery should enclose in their package a stamped, sealed addressed envelope to a third party (to preserve anonymity). This will be posted on receipt of submission.


Anonymity

Packages and the designs they contain should be sent in without name, motto or distinguishing mark of any kind and be accompanied by the declaration form provided, which should be placed in the ‘official envelope’ provided. The RIBA will place a number on each drawing and on the official envelope. The envelope will not be opened until after the selection has been made.

A successful competitor must be able to satisfy the assessors that he / she is the bona fida author of the designs he / she has submitted.

Anonymity will be lifted at stage 2.


Disqualification

A design shall be excluded from the competition:

If received after the latest time stated under submission method

If, in the opinion of the assessors, it does not substantially meet the requirements of the brief

If a competitor shall disclose his or her identity, or attempt to influence the decision

If any of the mandatory requirements of the competition conditions and brief are disregarded.


Copyright

The ownership of copyright in the work of the competitors will be in accordance with the Copyright and Patent Act 1988 that is copyright rests with the author.


Announcement of Award

At the conclusion of the competition the RIBA will publish the winning names after communicating it individually to each of the competitors.

All the designs may, by agreement, be retained for a further period by the promoter for the purposes of exhibition and publicity.

The promoter or the RIBA may publish illustrations of any design, either separately or together with other designs with or without explanatory text.


Questions

Questions relating to the competition brief and conditions must be addressed in writing (by post or by email, or via the website) to the RIBA Competitions Office to arrive on or before 16.00 hours Wednesday 8 August 2007.

A statement in response to all questions will be circulated to all competitors.
