New Maker Space coming soon
This new gallery is being installed while we’re closed and will be ready for you as soon as we re-open
Our new Maker Space is a participatory, dynamic space at the heart of our museum galleries. It continues the story of our Designated Arts and Crafts Movement collection and brings this important collection into the present day, with a focus on contemporary makers and the techniques and materials they use.
Our Arts and Crafts Movement Collection is recognised as an “outstanding collection, which deepens our understanding of the world and what it means to be human” by Arts Council England. We are proud to update it with the new Maker Space so it can connect and inspire more people to engage with making.
Come and see local makers at work as they navigate the traditions of the Arts and Crafts Movement today. Feel different materials and find out where they come from and why they’re used. Explore our digital archives of original drawings and plans from master craftsmen, and play Material Bingo around the galleries.
The Maker Space will be open from Tuesday 7 April. The museum galleries will be closed Sunday 22 March – Friday 3 April while improvements are being carried out and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our exhibition Colour-ways: Light Works by Liz West will be open during this time along with our shop and café. Please check our website or ask at reception for details of live demonstrations.
